Dr. Barrett Wins Lawsuit Against the CIA

As part of his ongoing research into the administration of President John F. Kennedy, Villanova Political Science Professor Dr. David Barrett recently brought suit against the CIA to disclose long-classified information pertaining to the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion. Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, the lawsuit, “Barrett vs. Central Intelligence Agency” was ultimately successful in securing the release of the classified fifth volume of the CIA’s internal history of the invasion, and the subsequent fallout.

The Miami Herald has written up a balanced consideration of the volume and its significance for political historians, and can be read here.

As of Halloween 2016, the once-secret document has been published online in its entirety, and can be accessed here.

Congratulations, Dr. Barrett!
